The question of when a medication can cause an unsafe blood pressure reading has been a topic of debate for decades. At this year’sCenforceCenforce Men’s Health Conference, Dr. Emily Carter of the University of California, San Diego, presented a comprehensive analysis of the issue.
Viagra, or sildenafil citrate, is the active ingredient in Viagra, the first of its kind. Sildenafil belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. ED medications, on the other hand, block cGMP by blocking an enzyme called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type-5), which breaks down cGMP and, by inhibiting this enzyme, increases blood flow to the penis.
ED is a serious condition, and if you are prescribed an ED medication, you should be aware of its potential risks. Here are some of the most common risks of an ED medication:
Nitrates:Nitrates (medicines used in ED treatment) are taken as needed, but can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Before you take an ED medication, make sure you inform your doctor of all your medical conditions, medications, and dietary supplements.
Alpha-blockers:Alpha-blockers are prescribed for ED treatment, but can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
Other PDE5 inhibitors:Some men who take ED medications for PDE5 or PDE6 inhibitors need to be aware of how these medications can cause dangerous drops in blood pressure. Here are a few examples:

ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.

Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.
“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”

“There is a long-standing belief that, when a man is sexually aroused, his body begins to make a rush to the penis,” Kavaler said. “We don’t know if this is the case.”
For years, Viagra has been a prescribed drug for men with erectile dysfunction, and it has been available without a prescription for over a year. A few years ago, it was approved for use in men with diabetes and certain cardiovascular diseases. The FDA considered it a safe drug because it has been approved for use in men with ED.
“For example, in men with high blood pressure and diabetes, Viagra is a safe drug because it has been approved for use in men with diabetes,” Kavaler said. “However, we are not aware of studies that have found that Viagra is more effective than other medications in the same population.”
Many patients who are not sexually aroused are not able to enjoy sexual activity due to erectile dysfunction or sexual performance anxiety, or it has also been found to affect the quality of their sexual lives.
“It’s important that doctors and patients see the same side effects and the same results that they are experiencing in the patient population,” said Dr. John M. Derry, a urologist at New York’s New York Medical Center. “There is a growing trend toward more men with erectile dysfunction who are seeking medical treatment for their ED.”
While many drugs have been approved for use in men with ED, the majority of them are not available for sale or for sale without a prescription in the United States. The FDA approved the use of Viagra in 1998, and it was first approved for the treatment of ED in 1998. In 2003, the FDA approved Levitra, which is now available as an over-the-counter drug.
